We are from telling stories
chirping chatterboxes talking fast as cheetahs
from pretending to be cute little angels
then planning surprises,
from arguing with friends and laughing til it hurts
We are from super sticky stretchy slippery slime
from soccer, Spotify, Starbucks and “pineapples under the sea”
from strawberry smoothies, sweet supportive sisters
and annoying siblings we love anyway
We are from Kit Kats and curry
from Rhode Island, America, and many different countries, too
We are from making our country safe for immigrants again
from visiting new places, from fear of new beginnings,
loving others and being joyful
We are from Islam and Judaism
from threats to our schools, mosques, synagogues
from showing up for each other with love and support
We are from Islam and Judaism
from giving to others with tzedakah or sadaqah and zakat
from shared stories in our holy books and different stories, too
We are from Islam and Judaism
sibling religions, children of Abraham/Ibrahim (Peace Be Upon Him)
We are from One God with many names
from a peaceful community, one family
working towards equality, welcoming strangers and all who joins us

We are from magic, math and macaroni,
from Pokemon and pizza, burgers and delicious chili
We are from little brothers and sisters - stay away from our stuff!
from loving our parents and animals
from dragons, dogs and Doritos
from superheroes and sushi
We are from purple and pink like pink lemonade
from waking up early, making costumes and baking
the taste of batter as if there are twelve cookies in our mouths
We are from ice cream sandwiches on Sunny
Sundays standing on the sandy shore and
ice-skating on super snowy days sailing by so soon
We are from TV on rainy days
We are from comedy, we love to laugh
and tell funny jokes and clown around
We are from basketball, having fun and letting loose
from engrossing video games, comics and books
like Harry Potter, the best series by J.K. Rowling
Reading is our passion, taking us to tropical places
We are from Rhode Island, smallest state in the country
from all different cultures, from immigrants and equal rights
the freedom to do the work we want to do, how we want to do it
We are from Islam and Judaism
from communities that come together on Fridays
from fasting and feasting after, with blessings over food
We are from giving to those in need and welcoming the stranger
