Uncovering Narratives Guidebook

A United States without Muslims and Jews has never existed. In fact, both religious minority groups have lived in the Americas since long before the nation’s founding in 1776. Their experiences, however, have been largely excluded from the history we learn in school. Uncovering Narratives explores moments in American history that center Muslims and Jews during the first 400 years following 1492. Using a global framework, our curriculum ties together the history of the Iberian Peninsula with Muslim and Jewish communities in Latin America and North America between 1492 and 1893.

Uncovering Narratives is not intended to provide a comprehensive history. Rather, we capture a few historical moments that offer glimpses into the lives of the first Muslims and Jews in the Americas.
