Join the conversation!

Bring your full self to the program.
BRIJ is not just about getting to know each other’s religions. It’s also about getting to know each other. Bring your full self. What do you love to do? Whether it’s singing, dancing, playing a sport, cooking or going on hikes – let us know! There may be opportunities to incorporate your interests into BRIJ - in our sessions or outside activities.
Respect others’ perspectives.
While our curriculum focuses on shared values between Judaism and Islam, we also explore how each tradition may orient differently around these values and practices. Our religions are not the same and acknowledging difference should be an opportunity for discovery, not a challenge to our own tradition.  Also remember that each of us are speaking about our own experiences and practices, not as the expert on what our religion dictates.
Inquire – ask questions!
Even if it seems obvious or basic – ask! Interfaith dialogue pushes us to be more thoughtful about our own traditions as we consider the everyday aspects of our religion, and our religious culture that we may take for granted. For instance, we may consider for the first time – why do (or don’t) I pray daily? Why do (or don’t) I keep halal/kosher?

Join the conversation and make space for others.
We encourage everyone to participate in our conversations. If you love to talk – that’s great! We are excited to hear your thoughts. Just be mindful to make space for others to share, too. If you are not a big public speaker, you can share your thoughts with us through writing (submit a note to our input box or leave a message online). We encourage parents to join the conversation and learning, too. Feel free to leave feedback and ask questions here or submit a blog post. We look forward to hearing from you all!
